OUR SPECIALTIES

Therapy for depression & anxiety

It’s okay to ask for help. Therapy provides a safe and supportive space for you to process your feelings and learn positive coping skills for everyday life.

At Amar Husain Mental Health Counseling Services, we offer virtual therapy sessions for New York State residents. Whether you are struggling with depression or anxiety symptoms, we are here to help.

Therapy for depression

It’s completely healthy to experience fluctuations in your mood and periods of situational sadness. But when feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and lack of motivation are persistent or ongoing, they can make it difficult to function or do normal daily activities. Depression can also lead to feeling a loss of meaning in your life, changes to appetite, fatigue and difficulty being around people.

So many people have depression but the reasons can vary widely. It’s common to feel guilt or shame for being depressed, and thinking that you don’t have a valid reason for feeling so down.

Depression can be our body’s way of letting us know that something is wrong. It can also be our body’s way of telling us that it is time to process certain feelings or emotions.

Therapy provides a safe and supportive space for you to process your feelings so that you don’t have to do it alone. Providing your emotions with a voice after they have been shut down for so long can break their hold and create space to experience your full range of emotions.

Therapy for anxiety

Anxiety can keep you constantly worried about the future, or unable to stop analyzing the past. When anxiety becomes overwhelming and paralyzing, it stops you from being present and able to enjoy the moments where everything is going okay. This is an exhausting way to live.

Anxiety may be the way that your body learned to protect itself when you were younger or due to unpredictable and stressful experiences such as a traumatic event. This can be true if you grew up in an environment where you didn’t feel that you had much control or agency, or if you experienced a traumatic event where you felt a loss of control (ex. a car accident). To avoid threats, your body may become hyper-vigilant to any changes or unpredictable circumstances.

The good news is that there are effective treatments for anxiety. Therapy can help you process and be curious about the source of your anxiety and what it may be protecting you from. You will also learn positive coping skills in how to control your anxiety and the other ways it may be manifesting itself and impacting your life and your relationships. This might look like perfectionism, overworking, poor boundaries and low self-esteem.

THERAPY DOG/INTERN
SHE/HER

I work best with people who tell me I am the cutest dog they have ever seen.

I am an 18 month old Cavalier King Charles. I’ve been with my forever family for over a year now, and I’ve heard them say that I’ve turned their life upside down, which must be so fun for them. I am the goodest dog (I think), and I love them unconditionally.

I will jump on camera during therapy sessions if I sense that someone is sad and needs my support. My mom tells me not to, but I noticed that it makes the person less sad, so I will keep doing my job and one day they will understand my method.

I am still training to be a therapy dog because I love making people happy and can’t wait to have my own clients.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER & LIFE COACH

Asking for help is hard, but it’s easier than struggling on your own, and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I love being part of the transformation a client goes through from feeling alone and hopeless to realizing that there is always hope. Life is full of possibilities, and we can help you find them.

I specialize in helping young professional women conceptualize their business goals and launch their first successful business. In addition, I support young professional women in identifying the barriers that may be preventing them from achieving their goals and providing them with concrete actionable steps to overcome these barriers. This can look like unlearning the stigma that society has imposed on young women leaders and supporting them in building self-esteem, confidence, and healthy boundaries in their personal and professional life.

CLINICAL SUPERVISOR & LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR
SHE/HER

I work best with young professionals who are struggling at work or in their personal relationships and feel stuck.

Taking the first step to start therapy can feel intimidating. You may not be sure what you should be looking for in a therapist, or you might feel that no one is really able to help you. All these feelings are normal.

My approach to therapy is to create a supportive and compassionate space that will allow us to challenge and explore patterns of behavior, relationship dynamics, thoughts and experiences, while allowing healing to occur on the path to achieving your therapeutic goals.

Each individual’s path to healing is different. My background in Family Trauma Therapy gives me a unique approach. I use various therapeutic modalities that are person-centered and trauma-informed. I have experience treating adults from diverse cultural backgrounds having a range of concerns. I am also bilingual in Arabic and English.

**My work stems from an anti-racist/anti oppressive lens**
